Stems are individual audio tracks from your project exported as separate files. Exporting stems allows you to import your Wubble project into other DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, or Pro Tools for further editing and mixing.

What are stems?

In audio production, stems are groups of similar instruments or individual tracks exported as separate audio files. Wubble can export your project with each track separated, giving you maximum flexibility for post-production.

  • Vocals: Lead vocals, backing vocals, harmonies
  • Drums: Kick, snare, hi-hats, percussion, drum loops
  • Bass: Bass lines, sub-bass, bass synths
  • Instruments: Guitars, keys, strings, brass, synths
  • Effects: Risers, impacts, transitions, atmospheres
  • Dialogue/Voiceover: Spoken word, narration, voice

Why export stems?

Exporting stems provides flexibility for advanced production workflows and collaboration with other audio professionals.

  • Edit in professional DAWs with more advanced mixing and mastering tools
  • Send stems to mixing or mastering engineers for professional finishing
  • Remix or rearrange your composition in other software
  • Create alternative versions by muting or processing specific stems
  • Collaborate with other producers who use different software
  • Archive your work with maximum flexibility for future edits

Tips

  • Always export stems in WAV format for maximum quality and compatibility
  • Use 24-bit/48kHz for professional work or 16-bit/44.1kHz for simpler projects
  • Enable "Normalize Stems" to ensure all tracks have consistent levels
  • Include "Tail Length" setting to capture reverb and delay tails (usually 2-5 seconds)
  • Use "Export Full Mix" option to include the master mix along with stems for reference
  • Name your tracks clearly in Wubble before exporting to keep stems organized
  • Export stems with effects if you want to preserve Wubble's processing, or dry if you want to reprocess

Notes

  • Stem export is available on Pro, Teams, and Enterprise plans. Free plans can export the full mix only.
  • Each stem is exported as a separate audio file, so exports may be large (typically 50-500MB depending on project length).
  • Stems are automatically time-aligned, so they'll sync perfectly when imported into other DAWs.
  • Effects applied in Wubble (reverb, compression, EQ) will be "printed" into the stem unless you choose "Export Dry".

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I export stems with or without effects?

Export with effects if you're happy with Wubble's processing and want to preserve that sound. Export dry (without effects) if you plan to completely reprocess the audio in another DAW with your own plugins.

What DAWs can I import Wubble stems into?

All professional DAWs support WAV file import. This includes Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, and more. Simply drag and drop the stem files into your DAW.

How do I import stems into Ableton Live?

Drag the entire stems folder into Ableton's arrangement view. Ableton will automatically create tracks for each stem and align them to the timeline.

Can I re-import stems back into Wubble?

Yes! You can create a new Wubble project and import the processed stems from your DAW. Wubble will automatically create tracks for each file.

Why are my exported stems so large?

Uncompressed audio files (WAV) are large by nature, especially at high quality settings. A 3-minute song with 10 stems at 24-bit/48kHz will be approximately 200-300MB. This is normal and ensures maximum quality.
